The Ropeman 4 is the latest, innovative evolution of the original Wild Country ascender. This compact rope clamp covers a wide range of technical applications, including emergency rescue, self-rescue, ascending, self-belay and positioning lanyard adjustment. The new, improved side plate grooved closure mechanism prevents lateral sideplate opening when ascending a rope, and ensures that no rope gets stuck between the sideplate and the cam, making it more efficient and safer than comparable devices.
Made from lightweight, strong aluminum alloy and designed to work with a wide range of rope diameters, it also works with flat and tubular webbing slings and is compatible with HMS and oval carabiners. The ample cylinder hole design allows full rotation of the device around the carabiner.
The strong stainless steel wire is covered with a durable plastic sheath for safe and easy handling. The Ropeman 4’s small, lightweight design makes it easy to carry one on your harness at all times. An essential piece of gear for all vertical adventures.

The Ascender 4 works very well. The control is great and I feel very safe using it. I had seen a few reviews where people were frustrated that the caribeaner didn’t rotate around to the small end, and I was frustrated with that at first. After playing around with it I realized you need to slide it over the arm ov the caribeaner and not only does it go to the small end but it stays there instead of rotating around. Even better!!
What a game changer. It makes climbing and decending so much easier. I would recommend one of these to anyone using a linesman rope.
Big upgrade for your lineman’s belt and tether. Works and functions very easy. Fit the terhrd clips. Need to put silencing tap on the inside boar of the ropeman but works very well and enjoy the purchase. Also the best price I could find
I’ve been using the Ropeman 4 this offseason for practice with saddle hunting and it’s been a game-changer. It’s light enough that I don’t even notice it clipped to my lineman’s belt, but it still feels solid and well-built. The cam grabs my 9 mm rope right away and holds tight, even when I’m leaning out to set a step or cut a branch.
What I really like is how easy it is to adjust on the fly. When I need to move up the tree or tighten my tether, it slides smoothly and locks without fuss. I’ve used it in damp conditions and had zero slippage or rope damage.
It’s not the cheapest option, but for the security and convenience it gives me, I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. If you’re looking to upgrade your lineman’s or tether setup, the Ropeman 4 is absolutely worth carrying in your kit.
Working great. I do wish the release loop was a bit shorter to make it easier to operate with one hand.
