October 27, I just got set up for my very first hunt ever in Iowa. The weather was warmer than we wanted, but we had to make the most of our situation. I saw a few small bucks that evening and was excited for the week ahead. Little did I know my world was about to be flipped upside down. In the middle of the night I received a call that my wife was headed into emergency surgery to save her life. Myself and two buddies jumped in the truck and headed back to Michigan. Surgery went well and she was home by the time I returned and was recovering. Two days later she insisted I go out and hunt as my in-laws watched our kids. October 29th I headed to the woods with a rain front coming in that evening deer were on the move. Not in the stand for an hour, I had a very nice 8 point chasing does come by and started working a scrape. He presented a shot at 15 yards, and hard quarter away, I snuck an arrow behind his last rib. This deer means a lot to me because it’s a reminder that life can be here one second and gone the next. My wife was back in a stand 2 weeks later trying to fill her tag.
