#10 – Jackson Ellis

I got hooked by the saddle bug in the summer of 2019, and quickly assembled the gear necessary. I went in for the first hunt of 2019 on October 3rd. On my walk in, I jumped one of my target bucks. Disgusted with myself for the error, I went ahead and got setup in a likely tree. I got comfortable and texted my buddies that I’d already blown the afternoon by spooking a big buck. I hadn’t barely gotten my phone back into my pocket when I caught movement in a thicket and saw the rack. There was a big deer coming my way.

Twenty minutes later I climbed down and retrieved what turned out to not only be my first saddle deer, but also my first velvet deer, and what turned out to be an ANTLERED DOE. To say I’m sold on saddle hunting as an effective tool is an understatement.
